Bluewater Imaging offers bone mineral density (BMD) tests at 3 clinics in the Greater Toronto Area: 123 Edward Street, Lawrence & Dufferin and Woodbridge. A BMD test is a low-dose scan of the hip and spine that measures bone strength and osteoporosis risk. It takes about 15 minutes, needs a requisition from your doctor and is covered by OHIP.

Do not take calcium supplements for 24 hours before your test, and wear clothing without metal fasteners. Tell us if you had a barium study in the last week.

The radiologist's report reaches your doctor in 24 to 48 hours. A DEXA body composition scan is a different, self-pay scan that needs no requisition.
